in their Transition from Schools to Higher Education
Abstract

This paper reviews developments in school career education in Hong Kong in the context of the New Academic Structure. Career education is an essential component of whole-person development for the younger generation; and it is crucial for developing the aspirations of students in secondary education who are in the process of exploring various study or training options. Career education is taking root in schools as a result of partnership between the government and the education sector, but there are still some weaknesses in the system and its implementation. This is especially the case when considering provision for students with special educational needs. The author cites relevant research and makes recommendations for sustainable improvements.
